What matters before you commission it?
There is no single meaningful price for an RL environment. A deterministic code-verification task, a simulated CRM workflow, and a physics-based robotics simulator require fundamentally different engineering effort. Budget decisions should be driven by scope and risk.
State and task complexity
A single-step exact-answer task costs less to engineer than a multi-application workflow with many reversible states.
Verification difficulty
Objective assertions are cheaper to maintain than ambiguous human-like judgments or complex cross-system checks.
Operational requirements
Sandbox infrastructure, concurrency, test coverage, privacy restrictions, and model integration affect ongoing cost.
Be skeptical of quotes based only on number of tasks. Ask what is included in fixtures, validation, reproducibility, observability, and support. Published cost figures are hard to compare without these details.
Questions worth asking
Can I get a fixed price?
Usually only after the environment scope, target framework, and acceptance criteria are defined.
Does an environment require GPUs?
Not always. Some environments and verifiers run on CPU. Training models or certain simulators may need GPUs.
What should I request in a quote?
Deliverables, assumptions, milestones, test coverage, implementation rights, maintenance and infrastructure costs.
